Online Resource Menu for Construction Contractors

When you want information, confirmation, or illumination, you draw from a supply of resources. Perhaps your mentor, a fellow contractor, an advisor, or your spouse come to mind. Or it could be you think of your friend (and mine) Brother Google.

Rather than a long list of “best” websites for construction contractors, I’ve assembled a small menu of interesting and helpful online spaces and places for you to link to and gather sustenance for yourself and your construction business. The offerings are grouped into three categories: The Appetizer, The Main Course, and The Dessert.

The Appetizer

Knowify offers software designed for construction contractors and on their blog include information like, “How to delight your customers and win all-important referrals.”

Levelset is another provider for construction contractors that includes on their website a blog with helpful information. For example, one post is titled “Ultimate Guide to Preliminary Notice in Construction.”

eSub says their mission is to “Champion and elevate trade contractors to the forefront of the construction tech marketplace.” They sell construction management software, but you don’t need to purchase their software to take advantage of their blog. For example, this blog post about the pros and cons of using insulated concrete forms may be just the information you need before making an important decision.

Reddit for Construction is . . . well, you know, Reddit. What more can I say? Other than that, take this link with a grain of salt and a bit of apprehension. Be aware that the site contributors may have a very different sense of humor or taste than do you. Have a few laughs and be ever ready to scroll on.

The Main Course

Builder Online is a publication concerning residential construction. They say, “BUILDER Online provides home builders with home building news, home plans, home design ideas, and building product information, helping them manage their home building operations efficiently and profitably.”

Construction Executive is about construction management. On their site, you’ll find insights into the construction industry’s technology and trends, tips for budgeting, financing trends, and information concerning legislative issues.

Construction Business Owner is an online magazine that offers an entire library of articles, webinars, and white papers useful to uh, like the title says, Construction Business Owners.

Contractor is an online magazine geared toward contractors dealing with plumbing, heating, specialty piping, and fire protection systems.

Probuilder is geared to the professional builder. It is a magazine that provides breaking news, industry trends, product innovations, and best practices for the U.S. home building industry.

The Dessert

Art of Manliness is the largest independent men’s interest magazine on the web. This site offers information concerning relationships, skills, awareness, style, confidence, and more. For example, this article Your Concentration Training Program: 11 Exercises That Will Strengthen Your Attention is excellent. BTW, this is important for the girls among us too.

Real Men Real Style was founded by Antonio Centeno. He is a former US Marine Officer with an MBA from UT Austin and BA from Cornell College. He says his site is for those who want to discover how to Command Respect, Attract Opportunity and Increase Income by leveraging the science of style. This article, How To Turn Failure Into Success (3 Steps To Change Your Mindset in 2021,) is certainly worth the reading time.

The last link on the list is LaRae Quy. (She is a graduate of Arizona State University, but my University of Arizona heart doesn’t hold that against her.) “LaRae Quy is former FBI counterintelligence and undercover agent and founder of the Mental Toughness Center. She writes for audiences who are hungry, scrappy and ambitious in the pursuit of their goals—and drawing upon her own experiences as an FBI agent, she shows them how grit trumps talent by combining hard-nosed neuroscience with social psychology.”

Here is an example of what’s to be found on her site, How To Know When You’ve Found The Perfect Mentor.
