Worth Quoting

It has been a year. A year for the books. A year to remember. A year that (in years to come) will stand out.

It would be nice to think that at the stroke of midnight December 31, 2020, there would be a sundering of the calendar in such a way as to make January 1, 2021, a proper fresh start. But you and I know the chances of that resemble the proverbial snowball hurtling towards hell.

So . . .

So, I decided to ignore philosophizing over the year in the rearview mirror. And I decided to take the upcoming year head-on by compiling a list of some good, a few crazy, and a dab of thought-provoking quotes for the construction contractors (and others) who drop in on this blog.

Check ‘em out

“I don’t want yes-men around me. I want everyone to tell the truth. Even if it costs them their jobs.” – Samuel Goldwyn

"The closest to perfection a person ever comes is when he fills out a job application form." – Stanley J. Randall

“Being powerful is like being a lady. If you have to tell people you are, you aren’t.” –Margaret Thatcher

"Luck is a dividend of sweat. The more you sweat, the luckier you get." – Ray Kroc

“All generalizations are false. Including this one.” – Mark Twain

"The growth and development of people is the highest calling of leadership." – Harvey S. Firestone

“I love deadlines. I like the whooshing sound they make as they fly by.” – Douglas Adams

“The problem with the rat race is that even if you win, you’re still a rat.” – Lilly Tomlin

Here are a few more

“I always try to go the extra mile at work, but my boss always finds me and brings me back.” – Anonymous

“Get your facts first. Then you can distort them as you please.” – Mark Twain

“No man goes before his time—unless the boss leaves early.” – Groucho Marx

“If you think you are too small to be effective, you have never been in the dark with a mosquito.” – Betty Reese

“Like vinegar to the teeth, and smoke to the eyes, so are the lazy to their employers.” – Proverb 10:26

“Nothing is so embarrassing as watching someone do something that you said couldn’t be done.” – Sam Ewing

“If at first you don’t succeed, then skydiving definitely isn’t for you.” – Steven Wright

“The whole difference between construction and creation is exactly this: that a thing constructed can only be loved after it is constructed; but a thing created is loved before it exists.” – Charles Dickens

You can dream, create, design, and build the most wonderful place in the world. But it requires people to make the dream a reality. – Walt Disney

The above quotes are best when read aloud with someone else in the room. Just sayen’
